“It’s the best show in Charlotte.”
“This is an art show, NOT just a craft show.”
The Charlotte Art Collective (CAC) is a group of 26 fine artists. The CAC celebrates and promotes the enjoyment of original art and craft through shows in which selected local artists display and sell their work to the general public. The CAC also provides a community of mutual support for its members and seeks to foster their creative development. Membership to the CAC is limited to 26 Full Members. I became a Guest Member soon after we moved to Charlotte this year, and participated in the CAC Spring Show on April 29th. Just last month, I was invited to become a Full Member, when a spot opened up. What a thrill and an honor!

A Crafty Christmas is a juried fine art show featuring the best artists in the region. The show is timed to offer quality, handmade jewelry, gifts, home decor and more for holiday gift shopping! A Crafty Christmas will feature one hundred juried artists showing everything from hand-thrown mugs, to elaborate jewelry to fun and fantastic original wall art, including my own reduction linocuts. The show will open to the public 12:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday, December 8 including a special Holiday Evening Event from 5:00 -8:00 p.m. The Saturday hours are 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. A Crafty Christmas is a production of ArtShowGirls, a mother-daughter team with a long history in the business of fine art. Diane Sulg has been producing special events since the mid-eighties and also owned Maddi’s
Gallery, an award-winning and beloved craft gallery with locations in Charlotte and Huntersville. Michaella Dalton combined her gallery experience with staging regional art shows and most recently was the Show Director for the ACRE (American Craft Retailers Expo) Shows in Philadelphia and Las Vegas. The ArtShowGirls stress that the stars of the show will be the talented artists coming to share their abundance of handcrafted treasures. “This will be a fantastic opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind gifts for everyone on your list, so many beautiful things you could never find elsewhere,” said Michaella Dalton. The Hickory Metro Convention Center was instrumental in landing this new art and craft show. “We constantly receive calls from the public asking if there will be a Christmas show at the convention center and the answer has been ‘no’ since 2012. … Now we can say ‘yes’ there will be A Crafty Christmas show this
year,” said Hickory Metro Convention Center and Visitors Bureau CEO Mandy P. Hildebrand. “The Hickory Metro Convention Center is the prime location for a Christmas show as we are located off Interstate 40 and near Highway 321, and we are in the foothills, but very close to the mountains and the Piedmont. In addition, the large convention center is all on one level with plenty of free parking for attendees.”
If you are in Charlotte in November, or Hickory in December, I hope you can make one of these fine art shows! I hope to see you out for some one-of-a-kind holiday shopping!
